We’ve been wanting to come here for a few months. We’d previously visited Newcastle upon Tyne in the Spring of 2019. There are only so many chip shops you can visit at one time.
Lucky for this Chip Fiend, another trip to The Toon came about in Autumn 2019 so they looked up public transport routes to this chippy. It was on a bus route.
Upon arrival you make your order and pay at the till immediately in front of the entrance, then join the queue. This is a superb idea, as by the time you are the at the front of the queue, your food is ready for collection.
The menu here is extensive; they serve cod in different cuts/portions.
Tonight I was having haddock. It was served skinless, which seems rare, although I’ve heard most fish tends to be served this way up north.
The haddock was massive. I was enjoying it so much I almost forgot to eat my mushy peas. Apparently there’s a secret ingredient in the peas that make them special. Lemon? Who knows. They were delicious though. Quite thick, and a large portion again. Too much for me to finish.
They offer scraps here and who can resist scraps? The chips were nice and thick and covered in those scraps were super delicious.

If it's a first visit you will be happy. Regular customers will no the portion size has decreased and the price has increased
ReplyDeleteWe struggled to finish our portion because it was more than big enough for us. And we loved it. Quality not quantity they say...
