A Couple of Disappointments!

The Chip Fiends made a couple of visits late last year that ended up in disappointment. We don't usually bother posting bad reviews, but some of the food we experienced this time was quite shocking, so we decided to share our meals with you for your amusement. Please dear chip shops - try and find a balance between serving overcooked and undercooked food!

Manor Fish Bar, Ilkeston

Admittedly there is very strong competition from other chippies in Ilkeston, Derbyshire but the Manor Fish Bar could up their game a bit. The mushy peas we had here were delicious but the chips were quite thin and splintery.

What provided the biggest surprise in this meal, however, was the undercooked fish. It had a nasty fishy smell. This was extremely off-putting and after a couple of bites we daren't eat it. (The flavour of undercooked fish was awful).

Southwell Fish Bar, Norwich

At the other end of the scale was a visit to Southwell Fish Bar in Norwich. The chips we had here were burnt!

The cod was served skin on. The portion looked similar to another disappointing piece of fried cod one of the Chip Fiends had encountered at the Grosvenor, in the same city.

Dissatisfied Chip Fiend managed to scrape the fish off the skin with more ease here than the Grosvenor one, which was all that could be said in its favour...

Much of the meal ended up in the bin.

May we continue on our mission in 2019 to find the perfect fish and chips!!!
