A couple of the Chip Fiends are fans of the obscure British Sci Fi film Night of the Big Heat. Supposedly set by the sea but we’ve known for many years some of the location footage is actually shot in Milton Keynes village, some time before it was surrounded by mirrored buildings and roundabouts.
The star of the film isn’t Peter Cushing (who gets fried by an alien jellyfish) or Christopher Lee, but The Swan Inn, a thatched pub where intense heat causes bottles and libidos to explode.
We caught the bus to said watering hole for some liquid refreshment. Lucky for us it’s also a stones throw from Codswallop.
Strolling to wallop some cods, carefully stepping over some Starship robots we arrived shortly after the shutters had been raised and the menu screens switched on. Service was friendly and attentive. We both had the same meal for a change; mini cod, chips and curry sauce.
The chips were nice enough. We noticed that the chipper must have been a bit blunt because some of the chips looked like conjoined twins.
The curry sauce was thick and dark and very tasty. It almost looked like gravy but had a good spicy kick to it.
