Town Street Fish Bar, Duffield, Derbyshire

When one of the Chip Fiends visited the Town Street Fish Bar in Duffield there was a notice on the window saying that the business was for sale due to retirement. What a pity. Let’s hope the new owners keep up the good work because the food I had here was smashing!

I had a mini fish meal with mushy peas. The service was excellent. Customers place their order at the front door and then it is brought to them. Card payments are accepted. The chap serving me was friendly and attentive. He put salt and vinegar on the chips before ladling the peas on, and then asked if I wanted more S&V on top of the fish. Fabulous.

I found a bench nearby to tuck in.

The mini fish was of good quality for a small fillet. The batter was amazingly light and crisp. It reminded me of Rice Krispies!

The chips were quite finely cut but exceedingly fresh and pale golden.

My empty tray was deposited in a bin nearby. No food wasted here.
