Deans at Northway, Scarborough

One of our signals of a top quality chip shop is when we eat a substantial meal that leaves absolutely no trace of stodginess. No bloat. Just the satisfaction that you have eaten delicious food that won’t lie heavy on the stomach - and yet won’t make you pang for more later.

Such was the meal at Dean’s.

Voted top
Scarborough chip shop of 2018 and 2019 in the local press, we had to try it. No wonder Dean’s won the award.

This chip shop is associated with Silk’s at The Croft that we also ate at. There are definite comparisons. The same delicious batter in peaky explosions, the fresh-tasting chips, the efficient friendly service, and the welcome addition of scraps!

The fish within the batter was perfectly cooked, and the chips had that excellent mix of crispness and straight edges on the outside, and fluffiness within.

The only difference here was that the chips had a thicker cut than at Silk's, and the queue was shorter. It would be difficult to make a top choice between these shops as they are so closely aligned. We enjoyed the experience of the queuing system at Silk’s - plus there is seating there. However, if you are in Scarborough centre we highly recommend a trip to Dean’s.

Please note however that the chippy is only open on evenings most days of the week. Lunchtime openings are limited to Frydays.
