Beaufort Fish Bar, Derby

Beaufort Fish Bar didn't disappoint. Far from it. 

Us @ the Chip Diaries once stopped here on the i4 Chippy Crawl when Fish @ Tony's was on the same spot. We liked it then and we like it now.

Goodness. Yes, the chips are chunky. Chunky, with lovely, firm, straight edges, and fluffy on the inside. The fish is cooked to order too. Nothing left to go chewy in the cabinet an hour after opening time. 

We ordered mini fish, chips and curry sauce for the bargain price of £4 and waited a few minutes for it to be prepared.

The staff were polite and friendly. We watched regulars ordering their chippy teas. Fritters seemed to be very popular. One lady left a 50p tip for her take-home tea. Three members of staff were working. One serving, one frying, and the other was wiping down all the surfaces so that they were spotlessly clean. No vinegar splashes left here!

One of the members of staff was wearing a Carlton Fryer uniform. We wondered if Beaufort was connected to a chippy we had once been to in Nottingham.

There is one table in the shop which is handy. Pity there's not room for two if you don't want to share with the very noisy diners who were in when we visited. 

Once the meal was ready we found a bench nearby to eat. Everything was delicious and the portion size was just right. This all-day special was sensible. Enough to fill the tummy without stretching it to oblivion.

  

Our lovely piece of fish came in a light, crispy batter. With a nice and sweet but peppery Chinese style curry sauce. 

And chunky chips. We think we have already mentioned this, but a good thing is worth repeating... the chips at Beaufort are very chunky!
